Ace Distribution

Alcorn County Electric Power Association is an electric distribution cooperative serving Alcorn County in North Mississippi and is always concerned with the service and reliability provided to its members.    This concern led them to direct the design and build of a new 30,000 sqft distribution facility that would better facilitate efficiency and dependability for both co-op members and employees.  Special attention is given to ease of access, control, and distribution of day to day electrical components and emergency readiness. The architectural language is intended to complement the existing campus by employing brick, exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS), and standing seam metal roofing to the facilities public front while standard pre-engineered metal building components were applied to the back to control cost.  Brick used on the front of the building carries throughout the interior foyer which acts as a large hub for dispersing employees to an oversized training room, administration offices, and a climate controlled storage area.  Sleeping quarters and shower rooms are provided for employees needing to work around the clock during emergency power outages. A large, translucent sliding glass door allows controlled access to the heated distribution warehouse were electrical components are housed in storage racks.  From these racks, components are gathered daily and placed in secure lockout areas accessible to each electrical crew by means of an exterior overhead door.  Each day, electrical crews position their work trucks under the covered docks in front of their assigned lockout door to retrieve components supplied for that day’s work. For convenience, fork truck ramps flank each side of the distribution warehouse to allow for easy transition between the docks and concrete aprons for any heavy lifting required.
